Bald Head Island Club's Croquet Club 25th Annual Invitational was a smashing success. Held May 28 through June 3, the event featured singles and doubles play in American Six Wicket Croquet. Twenty-eight players from ten East Coast clubs took part.
The Silver Anniversary Invitational was dedicated to Bill Berne who died earlier this year. Bill was one of the founders of the Bald Head Island Croquet Club and its first president. For more than two decades he was a positive force for croquet both on the Island and at the national level. Bill was a member of the Croquet Hall of Fame, as is his wife, Billie Jean.
We were honored that Billie Jean was able to join us for the dedication.
Throughout the week, we heard nothing but rave reviews from our out-of-town guests who were impressed by the Bald Head Island Club's delicious food, beautifully-groomed courts, and professional staff. There was also high praise for members of the Croquet Club who housed visiting players, loaned golf carts, kept deadness boards, hosted parties, and made our guests feel welcome.
Special thanks to social chair Jenny Dees, who also hosted the opening party; tournament director, Judy Porter; and Pat and Larry Lammert who hosted the potluck
