Volunteers – We Need You!!!

The USCA needs volunteers on a local, state and regional level. The USCA is a non-profit organization with a small staff, which runs the headquarters office and functions on a national level in large part with the help of its volunteers around the country. There are many different volunteer areas you can choose from – various committee assignments, referees and tournament directors at district and regional tournaments, volunteer planning coordinators for social events. Also, we are raising money for junior croquet through our 30 for 30 campaign. Volunteers are needed to assist us with the implementation of junior croquet programs for children and teens throughout the U.S. This program could have a dramatic impact on the future of croquet and is critical to the growth of our sport.

If you wish to volunteer, please contact the USCA office at (561) 478-0760 or usca@msn.com, or you can contact your district or regional vice-president. If called upon, please say "Yes".

REGIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT NOMINATIONS SOUGHT

Each year three of the USCA Regional Vice Presidential positions come up for re-election. At the 2008 Annual General Meeting the following positions will be elected:

              Mid-West Regional Vice President

              Western Regional Vice President

              Florida Regional Vice President

The USCA Nominating Committee contacted all USCA club presidents in September to ask them to contact their club members and nominate someone within their region who they think would do a good job in the role of Regional Vice President. The Nominating Committee then meets and can nominate one or more people to be put on the ballot for the AGM. They must file their report by November 1, 2007. The list of nominees will be printed in the winter edition of the USCA Croquet NEWS.

In addition to nominations made by the Nominating Committee, candidates for Regional Vice President may be included on the ballot through petition, after having secured either (1) the approval of the District Presidents representing at least one-third of the total voting members of the region or (2) signatures of at least one-third of the total voting membership of their region. The petitions to be included on the ballot must be filed with the Secretary of the USCA on or before December 31, 2007.

If you or someone you know would like to be considered for nomination to the position of USCA Regional Vice President in the Mid-West, Western or Florida Region, please contact the Nominating Committee Chairman, Erv Peterson at (707)762-6725 or email: ErvP@aol.com as soon as possible.

2007 National Croquet Day

REMINDER!!! If you have not sent in your entry for National Croquet Day we encourage you do so as soon as possible. The dates selected for this year are July 7th and November 10th. These two dates were selected to accommodate the many regions, and hopefully weather differences across the U.S. and Canada. If you did not hold your National Croquet Day in July, you still have a chance to have your National Croquet Day event in November.

Here are a few suggestions that may help in getting you started:

REMEMBER NATIONAL CROQUET DAY IS TO GET NEW PEOPLE INTERESTED IN CROQUET AND GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT OUR GREAT SPORT – SO……..

Call you local newspapers and TV/Radio Stations and have them come and cover the event.

Post fliers in your local supermarkets, croquet clubs, golf courses advertising your event.

Post fliers in local colleges and schools to get them interested in croquet.

Offer free croquet lessons as prizes; or entries into a tournament you will be hosting.

Make a family croquet day for your hometown and have a barbeque with $1.00 hotdogs, popcorn (.25 cents a bag) and soda (.25 cents a can). Something to draw a family in that won’t be a costly outing but will be a fun day. Then do some golf croquet to get them hooked.

Pick a theme – (checkout in past issues of the NEWS)- Bingo; Las Vegas style; Mallet ball; Obstacle courses; carnival style; 18th century dress events; Alice in Wonderland croquet (off with their heads – not really – how about off with their specially designed croquet hats); host an event to raise money for a charity; Toequet; BE CREATIVE!!!!

We are contacting major croquet suppliers for donations of exciting prizes, including equipment, training tools and clothing. Prizes will be awarded for "Most Exposure for the Sport" and "Most Unique Event", so start brainstorming and let’s see just how creative we can be in developing ideas. Coverage of your events will appear in Croquet News.

You must register your club to participate. Contact Diane Weir at usca@msn.com or by phone at (561) 478-0760 to register and obtain promotional information. Or visit our website www.croquetamerica.com for the registration form and additional info. The co-chairs for this year’s National Croquet Day are Ron and Genie Hendry.

Remember, there are two excellent introductory videos (a short and a longer version) now available on the USCA website, if you haven’t checked it out yet…plus rules, tournaments, and shopping. Let’s make 2007 the BEST National Croquet Day ever!!

USCA Needs Members’ Email Addresses

The USCA office staff is working on collecting all member email addresses to have on file, as we will increasingly be using email as a form of communication with our members. As mentioned previously, we are already emailing our monthly newsletter to all members we have email addresses for. And we will be sending tournament entry forms and other correspondence to our members by email in the future as well.

Recently, we have been contacted by many of our members providing their current email addresses, and sincerely appreciate all the members’ and club presidents’ assistance in helping us have this information on file. Please continue to assist us in collecting all USCA members’ email addresses. Spread the word! Members, tell your fellow USCA members to contact us with their email addresses if they are not already receiving the newsletter. Club presidents, continue to spread the word to your club members and send us a list of updated email addresses for your members that belong to the USCA.

Please provide member email address information to the USCA office by calling (561) 478-0760, or email Jennifer Othen, Membership Coordinator, at jenniferusca@hotmail.com.

Cost of the USCA Instructional School is $400.00 for USCA members - $450.00 for non-USCA members (membership included).
